“If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” Yogi Berra

Childhood oppositional behavior is a condition that can grow into a severe mental disorder, create social problems, and cause school failure if left untreated. There is good news, however. Many effective treatments are available that will change your child's behavior for the better. Where to Start Most of us are familiar with creating mission statements and goals. In theory, committing to a specific outcome creates a magnetic field-like attraction that draws us toward the goal. Have you ever made goals for your child? Even if you have, revisiting the process from time to time is a good practice. Goal Setting Process for Parents What are your long-term dreams for your children, things that reflect your values and actions? What are your child's strengths? What strengths do you have as a parent? What steps need to be taken to get there? I have specialized in counseling children and adolescents with ODD, Conduct Disorder, and other behavior problems for twelve years. In my experience, I have learned that one size never fits all. For that reason, I use multiple approaches to address the problem. I use Behavior Parent Training, family therapy, and individual child therapy depending on the nature of the problem and the needs of each family.
